Well, did you hear that the new AOL MLM has ceased
operation? It has and there are a lot of people upset about
it. Apparently there was no explanation as to why they shut
down. It had only been in operation, what, about a month?

Monument Communication, the multi level marketing partner of
AOL has said that all will be refunded for their investments
That's great, but I would think that a lot of people's
dreams and expectation were suddenly dashed.

Hey, don't get mad at the messenger, he didn't do it.

This is but one reason that I stay away from MLM's and do
not allow any MLM advertisements in Business People Weekly.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the junk mail
slowing down? hhmmmmm??

        ********************************

I hope no one got infected with the HAPPY.EXE virus.
Normally I would not send a notice out because most of these
type reports are hoaxes. However, this one was reported by
several people who had been infected. While the virus does
not appear to cause any damage to the hard drive, it is a
tremendous nuisance.

There has been some discussion this week as to giving a
warning to subscribers about viruses. Personally, I think I
would rather have 6 notices than none and not know about the
problem. Now, I'm not saying for every report of a virus,
only those that are reasonably confirmed. The reader can
then choose to read and heed or disregard as he/she so
chooses. I agree with you that it is somewhat irritating to
receive multiple messages such as this, but I ask you, how
do I know you've been advised?

What about the poor guy that is not aware and his computer
gets infected? He, in turn, starts infecting others because
he does not know. Then he finds he has a virus and now
doesn't know where to turn or what to do. Don't we profess
to help one another on the net? Not everyone subscribes to
all the same lists. Isn't a small aggravation worth it, if,
in the long run, we help someone? I think so.

        *********************************

I'd like to have your feedback on something that is being
discussed at various parts of the net. That is;
newsletters being written in HTML instead of plain text.
Here's your chance to voice you opinion on the subject. I
know what my thoughts are but I'll wait and hare them with
you after the poll. So, if you favor HTML newsletter the

If you are not in favor of HTML in newsletters then click
here No_HTML@bizjunction.com

I for one will be interested in the results. Maybe, I'd
have to change my mind :) (grin)

            Feature Article

"More Ways to Promote your Products on the Web" By Gary
Christensen

In two previous articles I've written about the
"standard" methods of Marketing on the Internet; Getting
listed with Search Engines; Using Newsgroups; Using
e-mail; Bulletin boards; Word of mouth, etc. Since I keep
learning about other avenues of self-promotion on the
Web, I thought it was time to give you a few more methods
I've discovered in my time & travels on the Internet
Super Highway.

1) Site-based message boards. Many sites have message
boards, or bulletin boards, at which you can post a message
to be read by other visitors to that site. You can't post an
actual ad, but, you can post a message in response to a
question or a statement by another visitor. In your message
you can mention your site or include your latest offer in
your signature file! Many other visitors to that site may
read and respond to YOUR posting!

2) Referrals in Newsletters. Contact various Web
Publishers who issue a Newsletter which might be related to
your product or service. Write the editor direct, or send a
message to all newsletter Publishers within a Newsletter
like "E-zine Publishers News" (chrig98@aol.com)    . Find
Publishers who are willing to "work out a trade deal" or who
are willing to give YOUR Newsletter or Product a "mention"
in their next issue! It's one of the most powerful methods
of promotion available and if you ask nice and/or offer to
do something in return, it can get you a LOT of free
publicity in other Newsletters. (View a List of over 600
e-zines at: http://www.site-city.com/members/e-zine-master/ )

3) Swaping ads with other Publishers. Besides requesting a
"mention" in another Newsletter, you could locate Publishers
who are willing to trade (swap) ads with you! You place a
free ad for them, and they do the same for you, either at a
website or within an e-mailed newsletter. (A free list of
"Publishers willing to swap ads" from: gach98@aol.com )

4) Resources in various Articles. We all read the writings
of others, posted at various websites, and articles within
Newsletters. Occasionally you see a website mentioned in an
article; or a writer might mention where you can get a free
report, from an autoresponder, or they might list an e-mail
address, where you can obtain some other free info. Contact
some of those article writers, and suggest they write about
YOUR site or mention YOUR e-mail address within their next
article! It couldn't hurt to contact them, to inform them
of your new product or service; to ask that they consider
mentioning it in their next article!

5) Link Exchanges. Your own website might be a good
resource for someone else's website! Try to locate other
sites that would be a good match for your own. Try to get
the owner of THAT site to place a link at THEIR site,
directing visitors to YOUR site. Be willing to offer them a
link from your site back to theirs. Both of you can share
visitors to your sites! Both of you can benefit from links
to other (similar) websites! (If you want to know WHO or
WHICH sites are already linked to yours, go to: (
http://www.altavista.digital.com ) and this feature will show
you every page they have on file that has a link to your
website! Go to the main page and type in your URL (in the
form: www.abc.com/abz). Alta Vista has the most extensive
monitoring of hyperlinks in HTML pages. Within moments it
will bring up the results of the sites that are linked to
yours. This is a great feature to see how many othe.r sites
have actually set up a link to your site.

A good way to find "similar sites" to yours is to go to:
Infoseek, ( http://www.infoseek.com )  - be patient, as it
takes a while to load - and type in some search words
(which can be found at your own site). First, see if
YOUR OWN site is listed, then click on "similar sites."
Go to each and try to contact the webmaster for those
sites and see if you can "work together to benefit you
both." Good Luck!
