            E-mail Tips

We all know that e-mail is the life blood of Internet business.
Products are offered, discussed, sold, and sometimes even
delivered - all by e-mail.

Just visit your local Internet Service Provider, sign up and
you're in business. No web site is needed for conducting
business via e-mail. However, I for one, would be very cautious
dealing with someone who has no web site that is their own. They
probably haven't been or will be in business very long.

For the honest, hard working, decent, netrepreneurs e-mail is the
most important form of communication for newsletters, product
information, sales information, etc. and accomplished without the
use of spam. Unfortunately there are those who don't fall into
the above category. They are the spammers.

The spammers are those who send bulk e-mail that is unrequested
and unwanted. For anyone starting out on the Internet, this is
the best way to lose your ISP and gaining absolutely no good
will. In fact, you'll likely make lot of people angry trying this
method of business.

Some folks think that spammers are just utilizing their right to
free speech. I am not one of those people. By what right do
spammers have to force you to receive their message and have you
pay for it. That's right, you and I end up paying for the
unrequested and unwanted messages. They take up valuable time
sorting them out, space on the server and bandwidth downloading
them. Many times they are stealing bandwidth from systems that
don't have sufficient security to send out their junk.

In a very short time I have added over 354 addresses to my list
of spammers for filtering out so that I don't have to keep
deleting them. Every day I get new ones. It's frustrating
sorting through the spam to get to the legitimate messages.

I classify bulk e-mail as spam because the so called safe lists
are generally made up of addresses that have been stripped from
web pages. I can't count the number of times I have received
e-mail to one of my auto responders which are never used for
return address. In fact, I have had more than one occasion where
a knucklehead has addressed his spam to an auto responder that
send out a message thanking the subscriber to BPW for their
subscription. After the idiot has received this message he
writes back, to the SAME auto responder wanting removed from the
subscription list. Of course, he gets another thank you and he
sends another demand to be removed. This goes on for a couple
more messages with the person still not realizing he is
conversing with an auto responder and that each time he sends a
message to it, he will get one in return. During this, the idiot
was getting quite nasty and he spammed the address to start with.

I discovered this upon checking my e-mail and wrote the guy
advising him to quite sending to an address that sends out an
automatic reply and that he never was subscribed. Well, he had
to have the last word, so he sent another nasty note. Guess what
address he sent to. Yep, you got it. The auto reply address.

When conducting business on the net, I have found that common
sense and courtesy goes a long, long way.

    "They tell us courtesy is contagious. So why
    not start an epidemic?"

The only professional way to run any kind of e-mail list is
strictly opt-in. When someone joins your list, please make sure
there are instructions as to how to be removed from the list.
Honor all removal requests immediately.

I don't think you will go wrong by following the simple rule --
Do Not Spam --. I think you'll find that being professional, and
following the no spam rule, you will reap the benefits of
obtaining new friends and clients on the Internet. So, keep
working hard and good luck.

What Have You Done Today To Promote Your Business?

Promoting your business on the internet is a never ending
process. You cannot afford to place some advertisements and
then sit back to watch the results roll in. To do so would
doom your business to failure. Instead, each day, you need
to be doing something to promote your business.

So what are some of the things you could be doing each day
to promote your business? I will run through some ideas for
you. This is not a complete list - just some ideas to get
you started.

Write An Article.

A great way to demonstrate your expertise and to entice
people to your web site is to write an article and submit it
to various newsletters. Ensure that you choose newsletters
your prospective customers are likely to be reading. Ensure
that at the end of your article is a resource box that
refers the reader to your site or your ezine.

Place Some Free Classified Ads

Look for places where you can place some free classified
ads. A good place to start is the classified ads at Yahoo.
This is a high traffic site that is well worth posting to.
If you don't get responses to your ad on Yahoo - then it is
likely that you won't get results anywhere else also. So
spend the time to get your ad right on Yahoo before trying
other places. Test and test and test until your ad is
pulling responses on Yahoo. Then place it in other free
classified ad sites.

Invite Referrals

Amend your site or add to your ezine a request that your
visitors to refer your site to their friends. If you don't
ask people to do this, they usually won't. It doesn't take
much to add this request. Recommend It

trialing on your site.

Develop A Doorway Page

Spend some time developing a doorway page based on some
specific keywords that relate to your site. Once you have
done this, submit the page to the search engines. It is wise
to spend time working on improving your rankings in the
search engines. After all, they do provide a stream of free
targeted traffic. The only cost is your time to get your
page just right to achieve higher rankings.

Add Interesting Content

Add a new page to your website that contains content that
your visitors will be interested in reading. Ensure that the
page is submitted to the search engines also. This page
could be an article you wrote for your ezine (or other
ezines) or something topical that your visitors will find
useful. Again, demonstrate your expertise and through this
work on building trust with your visitors. Trust will
translate into orders for your product or service.

Bid On Some Keywords

There is a new breed of search engine that allows
advertisers to bid on certain keywords. The advertiser pays
for the traffic sent to their site. For example, if you have
a health business and your best key words are "low fat
diet", then you can bid on these words. If no-one else has
bidded on these words, you may be able to bid as low as
$0.01 - therefore, for each visitor they send you, you pay
one cent each.

The best search engine available is www.goto.com - they
provide a very good service and are worth checking out. A
newer search engine that may be useful is SearchHound
http://www.searchhound.com/

Look For Reciprocal Link Opportunities

Spend a little time looking for places where you can request
reciprocal links. These are almost as effective as the
search engines in providing free targeted traffic to your
web site. Consider sites where you can have your articles
appear with a link to your site. Be creative in your
thinking and don't just search for opportunities to trade
links. Don't be afraid to ask for other sites to recommend
your site to their visitors.

Review Your Banner Ads

Is there any way that you can improve the click through rate
of your banner ads? Consider the design of your banner. Test
some improvements and see what difference they make. Look
for ways that you can improve the targeting of your banner.
Maybe even look at changing banner exchanges or joining an
additional banner exchange that could provide you with
better targeting opportunities.


The ideas I have discussed above are just some of the things
you can do to continually promote your business on the
internet. It is important to remember that you need to be
doing something everyday to promote your business. This list
should help you get started.
